The Truth About Five Creeks

CLEARING UP MISINFORMATION SHARED BY WEST VANCOUVER MAYOR AND COUNCIL
QUESTION 1 – What is this project about ?
Mayor and council assert it’s about climate change.  NOT TRUE. It’s about development.  It would be needed even if the climate was not changing. (www.westvancommunitystakeholders.com/clearingupmisinformation-witpa)
QUESTION 2 – Is established development below the highway what makes the project necessary
NO. The project is driven by development above the highway (www.westvancommunitystakeholders.com/establisheddevelopment)
QUESTION 3 – Why is British Pacific Properties involved in the project ?
BPP is a major stakeholder and therefore should be involved.  Should it be involved to the extent it is ?  NO. (www.westvancommunitystakeholders.com/bpp)
QUESTION 4 – What is it costing taxpayers ?
Construction costs are $16 million.  If the project was not necessary this $16 million would be available for other infrastructure needs.  If a cheaper solution was available, the difference would be available for investment elsewhere. (www.westvancommunitystakeholders.com/costtotaxpayers)
QUESTION 5 – Will it harm the environment ?
Mayor and council say No.  PATENTLY UNTRUE.  More than five new concrete structures in the creeks, each requiring permits under current legislation.  Destruction of habitat. Large diesel-fueled construction equipment.  (www.westvancommunitystakeholders.com/wihthe-environment)
QUESTION 6 – Has the District looked into other solutions ?
Only options requiring a “big pipe” solution were evaluated (www.westvancommunitystakeholders.com/solutions). For details of a non-big-pipe option see  www.westvancommunitystakeholders.com/naturaloption
QUESTION 7 – Can the District pause the project ?
CERTAINLY.  Pausing for six months to evaluate other options would not compromise the completion date.  Clause 2.16 of the agreement with BPP allows the District to delay the project. (www.westvancommunitystakeholders.com/pause )
STOP THE  BIG PIPE.
